What is this website?

That's a good question! The simple answer is this website serves as a place for me to display my squirrel photographs and videos as well as validate my expensive camera gear purchases. It is also a place for others to display their own squirrel related material or just simply enjoy a furry explosion of cute!

How did you think this shi stuff up?

The short story is, OMGSQUIRREL.com was started when a bored web developer (me) decided he had some time to kill and $10 to burn on a silly domain name. I needed a mental break from another project so I decided to build this website. I had a bunch of squirrel pictures on Flickr getting some good attention and I thought, hey let's build a website around that!

The long story is that I got really passionate about photography and bought some fancy expensive camera gear that eats up a lot of my ~~savings~~ spare money. I enjoy doing it but I don't make money from it (yet... maybe), so buying expensive gear was always a question of "why do you need this?" followed by "fuuuu, why am I broke?". I also happen to live near a park and those crazy tree things that squirrels love to be around which means on a daily basis I run into the fur balls and since I take my camera with me everywhere, I kept taking some pretty awesome squirrel photos. Then one day I got extremely bored, decided I needed a mental break from another project and spaced out for about 3 weeks to build this website in my limited spare time. It's still a work in progress!

Why did you hand code this website? Isn't that a PAIN!?!?!

Well seeing how I work as a web developer for nDeviX (shameless plug) it would be really lame for me NOT to hand build this baby. Yes it is a pain and with my limited spare time it takes awhile but the problem with a lot of 3rd party software is they are bloated and have many things I don't need or want. I wanted a customized solution! So everything is customized here to my liking and it serves to showcase my and my companies abilities. Oh and unlike certain people my knowledge of web development isn't just being able to edit WordPress templates or use Weebly. :P

Are you a squirrel expert?

Ha, not even remotely close! The extent of my knowledge about them thus far is they are addicted to Cheeze Its ™, they don't like pretzels and they go insane for french fries which is why they always come up to me begging me for food (probably why they are also chubby). I'm sure I'll learn more along the way but until then I am in the dark about them as much as Insane Clown Posse is about magnets and the Chicago Cubs are about winning a World Series.

Suggestions, Errors & Updates

I built this website to be simple so if you can't find something or it doesn't work, I probably didn't build it or haven't gotten to it yet! You can try and email me about it and I'll get back to you when I can or when I want to. I update the website in my limited spare time but I try to at least have a new Sunday Squirrel Round-Up each week which is a round-up of squirrel photographs from our Flickr group.
